I just did a workshop on making corn dollies. Urk. Until yesterday, the last time I'd done it was when I was about 12??? years old with art straws instead of corn??? But then the other week someone in the local pagan moot was trying to make them and I was like, "hey, I know how, I can show you how to do those." Hence workshop. Maybe that makes me pretty nuts.
Came back pretty easy yesterday though, when I was figuring out projects and making samples. I don't know if I'm entirely successful as a teacher but we did some plaited straw favours that I found online to work up to the 5 and 6 straw types, and so everyone made something that looked decent to take home. I might post images of my samples tomorrow, in the meantime the thing we were aiming toward looked something like this: http://barbedpentacle.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/corn-dollie-1.jpg
My parents used to run stalls at craft fairs. Every weekend I would be sat behind a stall or running loose behind the scenes at some event in some other county of England. So we frequently got to be taught how to do weird random stuff by the other stallholders. I think this is where I got my tendency to try my hand at everything from. I guess perhaps I had a strange childhood? Anyway, there was this old woman who used to make the corn dollies and I was taught by her when I was about 8.
I am seriously hoping I haven't sprained my knee but it hurts quite a lot tonight. I know there are comments I haven't replied to but I'm not going to be able to stay on my laptop for long.
