Honestly, if that episode hadn't had some interesting direction in a few places -- notably when Sandman's world was breaking apart -- it would have been without any redeeming features whatsoever in the A plotline. I fully understand why they'd give it to a new director (this was Lucas Bryant's) to take a risk on it, because that ended up being virtually its saving grace. Skeevy "she's mine!" plotline where the female lead becomes an object of possession to the villain, predictable villain who should have had the potential to be interesting and wasn't, and a general feeling of "ugh". The fandom if I recall has a problem with this writer, Shernold Edwards, because they like to emphasize Duke's contribution in the stories? I have a problem with this writer because they cannot write women. It's the same one that reduced Audrey to a panicking mess in 'William' when Nathan got tased, and here there's a brilliant chance for Audrey and Charlotte to shine and they come off vague and weak instead. I got the general feeling that it was produced largely for the opportunity to see Audrey flounce around in a wedding dress.

The B plotline with Seth and Duke, however, was most welcome, if not earth-shattering.

Given the B-plotline and direction, the only question that remains is was it enough to save this episode from being relegated below 'Roots' as my personal worst episode the show has produced?

I'm not forgiving it for killing Grayson, either. Also. Why the fuck would you go with that ridiculous hackneyed song when you could have Metallica? (Aside from... money... but all the same...)
