I finished Fortress, the sequel to Squared with the Audrey/Duke/Jennifer/Nathan foursome action. It's ~30,000 words long. That's in draft, longhand, and usually they gain a few thou when typed.
Again with the despairing cry of, "It was never meant to be that long!"
Why I felt compelled to do this to myself I do not know, considering it's difficult enough trying to manage the relationship dynamics of writing a threesome and there are people far better than me at writing the polyamory. I'm like, how do you even manage those dynamics, with a foursome? I end up mostly treating them as two couples who live in each other's pockets and sometimes swap and change. And my mind goes straight back to Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Forbidden Tower because that's the only place I've read anything remotely like a foursome relationship dynamic before. (I was about 14. It was an eye-opener.)
Wish someone else would write this 'ship. Troublesfest produced a couple of other things that skirted it, but nothing that jumped in and had them all in bed together. (Do I always jump for the deep end and make life hard for myself?)

Actually, guys, a request: rec me foursome fics? I'm intrigued. I want to know how other writers have handled it.

I was so, so, so stunned to end up writing the foursome smut fic that came out of that challenge, because I'm so not the polyamory writer/fan. I mean, I'll write it, I wrote threesomes in One Piece fandom, but it's not a consuming interest like I know it's important to a lot of people in fandom. It's just a matter of I like character A and B and have no objection to adding C (and then D) to the mix as well. Although generally if someone dares me to "write ----" then I'll take that up and write it. (Which has been underage reindeer porn in the past but... maybe it's best not to talk about One Piece fandom at all, eh?)
I love so much the idea of adding Jennifer to the mix of Audrey/Duke/Nathan, because they're lovely with the trio, but she adds a softer side that when I think about it, I think is a real plus for them.

When I wrote the threesome fic for Troublesfest, I was basically trying to treat it as a lot of overlapping couples relationships. I was terrified I would leave someone out, which was why the switching POVs too, which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea.
I adore Jennifer. I really love what she added to season 4, and as you say, she adds a softer balance that the other three need.

I'd written a few threesome PWP, of which I think all but one are on an anonymous meme, before I wrote anything trying to deal with an OT3 as a serious relationship prospect in Haven fandom. The latter was harder. First one I wrote still hasn't been posted and didn't actually get as far as all of the characters getting together and saying "lets do the threesome thing", it's just Duke and Nathan and Audrey dancing around the subject with a plotline full of consequences that make it less likely to happen.
Those three need someone to make them stop when they start butting heads. Too many hero complexes and conflicting wills and too few calm heads.

When I signed up, I was actually kind of hoping for an OT4 request, because of the fic idea I mentioned above. I wanted to go ahead and write it. And then I saw the prompts and even though I didn't know where to start with Jordan, the prompt was too perfect not to do. I knew it would be long before I started. There I was, hoping for something I could knock out in 1000 words and then I get a prompt for a meaty story.
The relationship stuff can be hard, but that's because it's also the most interesting.
